Know About Effective Natural Conjunctivitis Treatment
Conjunctivitis is an infective as well as allergic condition of eye that causes the inflammation of the conjunctiva or the inner mucosa membrane of the eye. The white portion around the eye balls turns red accompanied by watery discharge from them. During conjunctivitis eye become highly photosensitive along with the feeling of constant irritation. Conjunctivitis is also known as pink eye syndrome.
Though in most cases, it is a harmless eye condition that takes around 4-5 days to heal on its own but the underlying discomfort is quite sickening for every sufferer. Conjunctivitis caused by bacterial and viral sources are highly contagious in nature. As there is no treatment available to cure viral conjunctivitis, it is very important to check its spread among large masses.
Types of conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis could be of different types depending up on its source of infection .The most rampant sources are bacterial or viral in origin, which forms the highly infectious category. A common virus group called Adenovirus which is responsible for infection of upper respiratory tract (common cold) is the most prominent source of viral conjunctivitis. Among bacterial sources Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are the common culprits that cause symptoms of pink eye. Another group of bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis which cause sexually transmitted diseases is also responsible for conjunctivitis in case of newborns (neonatal conjunctivitis) and sexually active persons. Giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) is a type of conjunctivitis that affects persons who use soft contact lenses on regular basis. It is mostly an allergic manifestation to a particular brand of lenses. Other such forms of allergic conjunctivitis are caused due to certain types of allergens like pollens, dust, mites, gases, fumes, animal dander etc. These sources are mostly non contagious one, only affects those few with a weak receptive immune.
Warning signals of Conjunctivitis
Most common symptom of conjunctivitis is related to the changed appearance of the eye as the colour of the retina changes to red with swollen eye lids. This is accompanied with painful itching and burning sensation. Mucus discharge from the infected eye is so much that it binds both upper and lower eyelid together, making it difficult to open. It usually affects both the eyes at a same time. During infection eyes become extremely sensitive to light.
How to tackle symptoms of conjunctivitis naturally?
Since viral and bacterial forms of conjunctivitis are highly contagious in nature one should try to take necessary measures to check its spread. The infected person should use separate towel, handkerchief and pillow case. One should not touch and rub the infected eye frequently as it might worsen the symptoms. Avoid bright light as much as one can, for this one can wear dark coloured glasses.
An eye wash prepared with sterilized water along with pinch of turmeric is quite effective. It reduces the swelling and relieves the pain. Rose water and a Aloe Vera juice can also be used as eye wash. Sterile water enriched with dried Chamomile flower is very good at reducing all kind of conjunctivitis symptom.
Different types of essential oils such as Chamomile oil, Lavender oil and Rose oil can be used as warm compress.
Fresh Pieces of Potato slices or grated potato can be used as an eye compress; it would relive both inflammation and irritation.
One can put chilled tea bags on eyes as cold compression. Tea has chemical called tannin, which soothe eye irritation and reduce the swelling as well.
Warm and cold water compress when used alternatively is very effective in reducing the pain and swelling simultaneously. It would also reduce the discharge, making it less sticky.
One should increase the intake of vitamin A and C rich food, as it would fasten the recovery process. For this one should include plenty of Carrot, Papaya, Pumpkin, Mango, Tomato, Citrus fruits and yoghurt in their diet.
