This remedy should be used carefully. Overdose may lead to muscle spasms and headaches.
An herbal tea made with passionflower and chamomile calms the central nervous system. For this add 1 tbsp of dried passionflower and dried chamomile to 250 ml of boiling water and let it brew for a while. You may add honey for antioxidant effect. Drink it a few minutes before sleeping.
Baths
Baths help in improving blood circulation and falling into a deep sleep. Dissolve 250 mg of Epsom salt to the bathing tub. Keep temperature of water as close to body temperature as possible. Epsom salt is a great muscle relaxant. Soak yourself in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes.
You may add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bath for additional relaxant effects. Go straight to bed after this remedy before the body and mind can become alert again.
Changes in Lifestyle
Make sure the bedroom has good ventilation and darkness. Get habit of reading a book while getting ready to sleep. Listen to soothing music. Vigorous work out will make body and mind tired and help in achieving a deep sleep.
Cut down intake of caffeine and alcohol. Cheese, milk, dark chocolate, brown bread, potato and rice are comfort foods which induce sleep. Make sure you do not over indulge in food and eat them in healthy ways.
