Inositol as part of Vitamin B-complex family
Taking dietary supplements has become essential in order to keep up with the demanding life-style of today. We all know about Importance of vitamins and minerals, Right? Let’s take them one by one. Today it’s Inositol. Inositol is actually constituent of vitamin B-complex family. Natural sources of Inositol include wheat bran, oranges, beans, nuts and cantaloupe.Inositol is not directly absorbed into the body. Its body-absorbable form if phylate.
The basic functional ability of this ingredient is to help in rejuvenation and healing of the cell membranes. Usually, people do not require this form of Vitamin in their daily diet. But in cases of Obsessive compulsive disorders, anxiety and depression, a dosage comprising of about 12 to 18 grams of Inositol has shown to provide positive effects. Otherwise, physicians ask to take about a daily supplement that includes Inositol in 500mg. Good news is that many people have hardly ever reported to have deficiency of Inositol. But changes of deficiency are high for that suffering form diabetes. This is due to their higher rate of excretion of urine. They might need supplementation under a physician’s guidance.
Its different story with patients suffering form renal dysfunctions. Due to accumulation and higher levels of Inositol, toxicity could be possible. Another problem is since the dietary available form of Inositol is phylate; this ion reduces the absorption of iron, calcium, and zinc. In such conditions, supplementation of Inositol has no positive effects.
Certain studies even suggest that Inositol initiates the uterine contractions. Therefore pregnant women or women who want to conceive should consult a doctor if supplementation is essential. Not even this, Inositol even shows drug interaction with some medicine. For example it interacts with medicines that carry lithium as their ingredients. Interestingly, some articles increase the need for Inositol in our body, called as the positive effect. Whereas, some may react with it and show negative effect.
