Inflammation of Prostate Gland

Prostatitis is the disorder of the prostrate gland in men which forms a part of the male reproductive system.

Symptoms

The disease cannot be easily diagnosed as all the men have different symptoms. Some have problem while urinating like burning and some have problem that they are not able to empty the bladder properly. Also these can be the signs of other urinary diseases also.

Some of the very first symptoms could be pain during urination, lower back pain, frequent urination, decrease interest in sex, pain in the groin and also difficulty in attaining erection.

Types

Prostatitis can be differentiated into four types.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis is one form which is very rarely seen. It is caused by bacteria which finds place on the prostrate and multiplies there causing the infection.

Other is acute bacterial prostatitis which is also rare but can be life-threatening. This type can be easily diagnosed as the men suffering from this disease have symptoms like chills, fever and pain in the lower back and also in genital area. Urge for urinating is very frequent especially during night. It can be diagnosed by doing urine examination. Presence of white blood cells and bacteria in the urine confirms this infection.

Chronic prostatitis is the most common and very rarely understood form. In this type, inflammation of the prostrate is found. Its symptoms vanish consequently and also return without any warning signs.

Next is asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis. In this, there is no pain or any discomfort in the prostrate. It is only diagnosed when the men goes for infertility treatment or prostrate cancer diagnosis.

Diagnosis

If you notice any of the above mentioned problem consult the doctor. He would do rectum examination and also take urine sample for testing.

Treatment

Once the cause is known the treatment would be started. Various antibiotics would be given which you have to take for several days or months depending upon the severity of the infection.

Myth

There is myth that this infection could be passed to the partner by doing sex. This is wrong and it cannot be passed to sexual partners.
