Improving Eyesight

Week eyes are becoming a common problem with almost every one using a pair of glasses. But with a little effort one can not just prevent the number of the eye from increasing but also may help in improving the eyesight.

Herbal Remedies

Gingko biloba is a powerful antioxidant herb. The herb is available in the form of tablet and capsule supplementation. Gingko is found to be helpful in improving the health of the eyes. Additionally, it cures poor circulation and tinnitus.

Bilberry or Vaccinium myrtillus also protects retina from deterioration. The role of bilberry in eye care is more of a preventive aid than curative. It is better taken as a daily tonic along with other herbs like brahmi and ginkgo.

Passionflower is yet another herb that helps the eyes to relax. It improves circulation and is said to calm the mental anxiety.

These herbs can be taken daily in form of tea. Prepare powder of fennel seeds. Take 1 tbsp of fennel seeds and mix half tbsp of honey in it. Eat this every day for 3 months or more.

Triphala is an ayurvedic powder preparation which is considered good for eyes. Drinking juice of spinach every daily for 2 months and see the results for your self.

Role of Diet

Increase intake of foods that contain good amounts of vitamin A, C and E. Food that provide ample amounts of vitamin A include cod liver oil, spinach, green vegetables and carrots. The vitamin protects the eyes against cataract and night blindness.

Foods that provide ample amounts of vitamin E include oysters, grapes, oranges, broccoli, strawberries, water melon and papaya. Wheat germ, mangos, asparagus eggs and avocados provide enough vitamins E.

People who drink alcohol or smoke tend to lose vitamin and minerals stores from the body. Also, their body fails to absorb these nutrients due to alcohol and smoking.

Exercise

You may choose to stand or sit on a chair for this exercise. Look straight and look at the farthest point possible, inhale. Slowly look down while exhaling. Blink your eyes about 15 times and come to a rest position.
