Importance of Vitamins and Minerals
It is true that major pharmaceuticals are promoting daily vitamin and mineral supplements and it is a huge market sale for them. Even more importantly, they are necessary for you.
On daily basis, our body requires major, minor trace and ultra vitamins and minerals. We all know about the deficiency diseases that are connected with various vitamins and minerals. These deficiencies are not result of a one day deficiency but builds over a period when body loses all sources for that ingredient. The most common deficiencies include of calcium, magnesium and vitamin C.
Calcium is required for growth and maintenance of bones structure. It is also required for pumping of blood through heart as part of calcium pump. We obtain calcium from dairy products as milk, cheese and curd. On an average, 300 g of calcium is necessary for any individual. In case of deficiency, the body uses bones and cartilage as sources of calcium for proper functioning. The result is weak bones.
Trouble during sleep is hitting the people commonly these days. Some scientists blame deficiency of magnesium in daily diet. It is found in leafy green vegetables.
The deficiency disease for vitamin C is scurvy. The problem is deeper with this vitamin. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. This means that whatever amount body can use on daily basis is used and rest is excreted out of body. This mean it is not stored like fat soluble vitamins. Under these circumstances, it becomes important to take vitamin C on daily basis. The same rule is applicable for vitamin B complexes also.
Vitamin C is essentially required for strengthening of immune system. Most of the vitamins are present in tablet or capsule form for consumption. The disadvantage being that elderly cannot easily take them. Also, it seems like an additional work to get water and swallow the pill. Instead look for an easier liquid option to drink on daily.
