How To Improve Memory
With so much going on every day in life it is possible that your memory may take voluntary breaks. Here are a few things which will help in improving the memory significantly.
Role of Diet
Food ingredients play a crucial role in rejuvenating cells of brain and increase their functionality. With age neurons (brain cells) tend to deteriorate. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants fights this aging process by fighting the free radicals. Best sources of these antioxidants come in the form of vitamins, minerals and certain fatty acids.
Vitamins E, C, B6 B12 and folic acid play a critical role. There are several natural sources of these nutrients. For Vitamin C berries and citrus fruits are good source. Vitamin E is found in abundance in broccoli, green tea, liver, papaya, cod liver oil.
Good sources of folic acid and B-complex vitamins are black beans, soybeans, strawberries, melons, broccoli and asparagus.
Omega 3 fatty acids and omega 6 fatty acids are very powerful antioxidants. Flax seed oil, walnuts, tuna, salmon and mackerel are good sources of these fatty acids.
Practice
Memory will increase with certain amount of practice. You will need to visualize the information that you wish to remember. Many memory improvement books emphasize on this habit.
When you meet a new person try to grasp how they look. Repeat their name in front of them after being introduced. Likewise, facts and figures, concepts, etc. use your imagination to remember certain information based on a visual image.
Another method is to try and seek a common link of the information, facts, person, etc to something you already know. The link or the relation will help you to memorize information faster since it will be associated with something your brain already remembers.
Try to be at a “receptive mode†always. This means that you must try to be observant towards your surrounding. Practice this often. Try to memorize things in your room, flavors of ice-cream at display in the cafe, etc.
You must lead a healthy life in order to have a good memory. Excess stress will interfere with concentration. Regular exercise and good sleep are best stress busters. Exercise will allow more oxygen to reach in the brain.
