How to Deal With Menopause Symptoms
Life does not pause after menopause. But it does change. Rather than getting upset with more than 35 symptoms of menopause it is better to remain optimistic and know how to take care of the body.
Symptoms
Hot flashes, night sweats, breast tenderness, irritability, depression and irregular periods are most common symptoms of menopause. Others symptoms include unexplained weight gain, rise in allergic reactions, reduced libido and a dry vagina.
There are many other symptoms too that include fatigue, aching joints, gum problems and burning tongue.
This phase of a women`s life requires a lot of patience and care of the body if you wish to remain healthy post menopause.
Dealing with It
Supplementation with progesterone and estrogen hormones is not harmful if taken as per directed. In many countries it is sold as OTC preparations.
Supplementation with these hormones will not just bring relief to the symptoms but also reduce chances for development of ovarian cancer, fibroids and cysts.
With age, levels of these hormones reduce in the body. The body needs them in order to keep on functioning normally. Thus, supplementation is good. But in case of any history of breast cancer women must consult the doctor before starting supplementation with isoflavones pills.
Foods that naturally help in increasing these hormone levels are cabbage, bees, beet, papaya, garlic, beans, pumpkin and red clover. Bitter vegetables are beneficial. Fresh green leafy vegetables are bitter. Vitamin E is helpful as long as the daily consumption does not rise above 400 IU.
There are several herbs that help in menopause symptoms. Black kohosh, Dong quai, Kava and soy are good for hot flashes and anxiety. Black kohosh must be avoided by people at risk with liver problems. Those on warfarin (blood thinning drugs) should be careful with Dong quai root as bleeding complications may occur. Ginseng is helpful for night sweats and insomnia because of menopause.
Women must avoid spicy food and excess sweets. Eat a balanced diet that is rich in antioxidants.
Long walks and yoga are very helpful. Maintaining a positive attitude towards life is very important. Some women experiencing menopause symptoms take it too seriously which often disturbs their relationships.
