Hormonal Imbalance In Men
Like women, many men face hormonal imbalance. Most of them are too shy to admit this and this is where the trouble doubles itself.
Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance in Men
It is important to be aware about signs and symptoms of hormonal imbalance so that the treatment can be started as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
The hormone testosterone is responsible for maintaining muscles in men. It is also responsible for heaviness in voice and maintaining optimal functioning of the reproductive system. Sudden weight gain, reduction in musculature and bone mass are some major symptoms for hormonal imbalance.
Due to lower amounts of testosterone, there occurs delay in erection. This is because; the testosterone stimulates the brain during sexual intercourse for the erection. Increased levels of testosterone, on the other hand, lead to increased aggression for the intercourse.
One serious issue with men who gain weight, especially on the stomach region, due to hormonal imbalance, is occurrence of the enzyme aromatase. The enzyme converts testosterone into estrogen.
Increased size in breasts, changes in emotions, increased irritability all strongly show hormonal imbalance in men.
Factors that Causes the Imbalance
Smoking has been shown to reduce testosterone levels in men. The blame goes on nicotine and other similar chemicals present in cigarettes and other form of tobacco that are consumed. These chemicals deactivate functioning of testosterone and trigger their conversion into estrogen.
Men are more prone to emotional stress. Chronic stress has adverse effects on DHEA. DHEA is produced by adrenal glands and it works with testosterone to keep check on reproductive system.
During stress, production of this hormone is reduced and this consequently reducing production of testosterone as well. Instead, cortisol is produced which disturbs the balance of sugar in the blood.
Diet plays a crucial role in hormonal imbalance. Excess consumption of saturated fats, processed foods, preservatives, hydrogenated oils all contribute in decreased production of testosterone.
Treatment
Drugs have shown adverse effects on health and therefore it is better to stick to natural therapies to regain optimal functioning of the hormones. Eating a balanced diet and taking daily supplementation of antioxidants help in strengthening the body against factors that cause the imbalance.
