Home Remedies to Cure Acidity

Acidity is often a common disorder that every one of us has experienced. It not only gives a weird feeling but also makes a person uncomfortable and nervous. The reason why acidity occurs is because the gastric glands of our stomach secrete excess amount of acid than what is required by our digestive system. Don’t be shocked to hear that acid helps in the digestion process.

Actually, our stomach secretes Hydrochloric acid for proper functioning of the digestive system. This acid then triggers the secretion of various digestive enzymes like pepsin which help to break the food particles in smaller pieces for easy digestion. Therefore, the presence of acid in our stomach is very important, but sometimes the amount of acid is much more than what is required and this causes a condition that we refer as acidity. A person suffering from acidity experiences tremendous heartburn and a constant sensation of inflammation in the throat.

Getting rid of acidity is not that difficult. So let us see some simple home remedies that can help to cure acidity.

Consume as many dairy products as possible as they provide immediate relief from acidity. Milk, yoghurt, milk shakes, buttermilk and other dairy products help reduce the level of acidity by neutralizing the acidic nature in the stomach. Another great remedy is to keep a small piece of jiggery in mouth and keep sucking it, until we feel the effect of acidity to be reduced. Even sucking a clove with or without jiggery can be effective. Stay away from spicy food and try eating the food at a slow pace as fast eating can lead to improper digestion of food, thereby increasing the worries.

Consuming bananas, watermelon, cucumber and onion is a good home remedy for acidity. Also try to increase the intake of liquids in your diet. You can take various juices or milk shakes for that matter. Regular consumption of coconut water, cabbage juice, fresh mint juice and warm water will help in neutralizing acidity and provide instant relief. Apart from these methods, try to consume a light diet and keep your lifestyle healthy, i.e. sleep early and do not put yourself under stress or anxiety.
