Herbal Treatments for Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis also called as pink eye or eye flu is a very common incidence during the rainy season especially among the children. Conjunctivitis is basically the inflammation of conjunctiva, a thin membrane covering the eye.

It is accompanied by inflammation. It is highly contagious disease and people who are affected must take a lot of precautions. It might be caused by streptococcus or staphylococcus bacteria. Sometimes herpes virus might also be a possible source. It causes burning and lots of itching, accompanied by gritty feeling of the eyes.

Prepare some chamomile tea, and then make it chill cold. Put it in some cooling bag. This bag can then be used to provide soothing effect to your eyes. Repeat the process till the participant feels comfortable.

Eyebright, an herb which is commonly found in Europe, is a very useful herbal remedy. It has been frequently used in the folklores. The herb can be made to a solution and this solution can be used to wash eyes thus relieving from conjunctivitis.

Red raspberry can also be used as an eye wash. The leaves and berries of rasp berry can be soaked in water to prepare eye wash. It as both immunogenicity and anti-oxidant properties. Thus it helps to detoxify the toxins present in the eyes and provides a soothing feeling.

Oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) is a native to Europe. Its constituents comprising of saponin, mucilage and tannins are effective against conjunctivitis. Their components are also parts of many ointments which are used for treating conjunctivitis.

The extracts of a berry are also effective against conjunctivitis. It contains a component berberine which possesses good effectiveness gainst conjunctivitis resulting from streptococcus and staphylococcus infections.

Echinacea is one popular herbal non toxic herb, whose lotion and tinctures can be used to manage the symptoms of conjunctivitis easily.
