Herbal Treatment for Sore Throat

A sore throat is a very difficult condition which is accompanied by dry and itchy soreness of the throat. This condition can occur to anyone at any time of the season. A sore throat is accompanied by swelling of throat, dryness of mouth, headache, fever and nausea. A person having a sore throat faces difficulty in swallowing, talking and speaking. This condition is the most common reason why people visit a doctor every year. But here we will see some herbal remedies for treating a sore throat so that you do not need to visit a doctor and can easily cure the condition at home.
Herbs help in reducing pain and inflation of the throat and provide temporary relief. There are many herbs that can cure a sore throat depending upon the severity of the infection. The best and most effective method is gargling with salt water. Boil two glasses of water and add a spoonful of salt to it. Once the water becomes warm, start gargling and do this at least four times a day. This method is very effective because washing the mouth with salt water kills the bacteria responsible for the throat infection and provides immediate relief.
Marshmallow and Slippery Elm (Ulmus rumbra) have been effective herbs for sore throat. They reduce the irritation and provide soothing effect to the throat. Other herbs such as garlic, ginger and mint leaves are also helpful as they reduce the infection of the throat and dryness. If you are suffering from a sore throat, you should consider drinking lot of fluids – in the form of water or juices, as they keep your body hydrated. The best liquid drink for sore throat patients is a solution of lemon and honey added to hot water. Drinking this solution will help in fighting flu, if it is accompanied by sore throat.
So whenever you develop a sore throat, do not visit the doctor. Use the simple herbal remedies mentioned above as the medicines prescribed by the doctor – mostly antibiotics may not be beneficial for you. It is better to treat any illness by using the natural remedies than going for artificial sources.
