Herbs help in reducing pain and inflation of the throat and provide temporary relief. There are many herbs that can cure a sore throat depending upon the severity of the infection. The best and most effective method is gargling with salt water. Boil two glasses of water and add a spoonful of salt to it. Once the water becomes warm, start gargling and do this at least four times a day. This method is very effective because washing the mouth with salt water kills the bacteria responsible for the throat infection and provides immediate relief.

Marshmallow and Slippery Elm (Ulmus rumbra) have been effective herbs for sore throat. They reduce the irritation and provide soothing effect to the throat. Other herbs such as garlic, ginger and mint leaves are also helpful as they reduce the infection of the throat and dryness.
