Herbal Remedies For Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a common ailment which is infecting a number of people. It is caused by various viral strains. Of all these Hepatitis B is the most dangerous and can even lead up to death.

Its main symptoms are ill health, loss of appetite, nausea, mild fever, dark urine, headaches and vomiting. Chronic infection leads to fatty liver and hampers its natural function.

Till now we do not have any medicine which can promise us a full fledged treatment against hepatitis. The treatment involves use of antiviral and common antipyretics, the side effect for which is already well known. In this scenario, the herbal medicines offer a great ray of hope and laboratory results show that they are effective to a great extent.

Given below are some herbal and readily available treatments which can be very helpful.

  • Cordyceps, an herb found on mountains, is shown to be very promising against Hepatitis. A dose of 2 to 3 grams can be highly useful. Laboratory results show that at these doses. Cordyceps can enhance the liver functions and also enhance immunogenicity.
  • Milk thistle also known as variegated thistle, is a very common growing weed found in the pastures. Laboratory results have supported its strong hepatoprotective property. If used 2-3 times a day it can reduce the inflammation of liver. It is also compatible and can be given easily with many other drugs.
  • Dandelion is one another commonly occurring herb, which is found in all parts of world. Its leaves act as diuretics and the roots are effective in restoring the enzymatic secretion of liver.
  • Bupleurum if taken in as supplement has been shown to be highly useful in elevating the liver enzymes.
  • Phyllanthus fruit which is most commonly grown in India is a rich source of vitamin A and is already certified as a good remedy for hepatitis.

Apart from this there are ongoing researches on herbs like Liquorice, Schizandra and Artichoke. These herbs have shown initial promise as an herb stimulant and may come up with good remedies in the future.
