Herbal Remedies for Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is one of those conditions where the patient regrets over the food he consumed. Usually, food poisoning happens due to consumption of unhealthy and unhygienic food. Eating stale food or leftover food can also cause serious problems for many people.

Treating food poisoning is essentially dependent upon determining whether the patient is really suffering from food poisoning or some stomach disorder. The easiest way to ascertain the disorder is to study the symptoms of the patient. Food poisoning will affect people after 48 hours of consuming the food. The common symptoms include stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Also, if the people who ate the same food with the patient complain about similar conditions, then it is surely a case of food poisoning.

Herbal remedies for food poisoning

The best remedy for treating food poisoning is to take as much bed rest as possible. This allows the body to speed up its natural recovery mechanism and flush out the toxic material from the body. Drinking herbal tea consisting of mint, ginger and chamomile can help in fighting food poisoning by promoting digestion. Drink as much fluid as possible as this will keep the body hydrated and remove the bacteria or the microorganisms responsible for the poisoning.

Prepare a mixture consisting of fresh curd and add basil leaf extract to it. Add a pinch of black pepper and black salt to this mixture. Consume this mixture at least five times in the day. This will provide soothing effect to the stomach and provide relief from vomiting and nausea. Another effective herbal remedy can be prepared with the help of coriander seeds. Soak a teaspoon of coriander seeds in water and let it stand out overnight. In the morning, remove the seeds and drink the leftover water. This will definitely help in curing food poisoning.

The best way to avoid food poisoning is by eating healthy and fresh food. Maintaining hygienic conditions in the kitchen and during the preparation of the food are also equally important. When eating outside, make sure you check the quality of the food as well as the surroundings and then only consume the food. After all, prevention is better than cure!
