Herbal and Natural Treatment of Pollen Allergy

The season of summer and spring is the time when a new life cycle begins for the plants. But this does not turn out to be very joyful for many among us, due to a common reason- Pollen Allergy.

Pollen particles are scattered in the environment and very often enter our body via respiratory pathways. Inside the body they trigger our immunity system, leading to sneezing, blocked nose and some times even fever.

People usually go for anti-allergic medications, but this has its own side effects- like numbing of senses and increased sleep. Also our body becomes resistant to these in course of time. In such cases herbal and natural treatments can help us to avoid these problems. Given below are a few herbal remedies for pollen allergy:

Recent studies have shown that antioxidants can be very helpful against allergy. So try to consume a lot of green vegetables, fruits and nuts. Fruits which are commonly available and can be helpful include apples, pears, peaches, cherry and grapes.

Apple deserves a special mention because its constituents can easily cross link with the allergens in the pollens. The vegetables like celery, peeper, spinach and carrots can also act as good antioxidants. Other than these hazelnuts, walnuts and cashew have anti-oxidant properties. One should have a handful of these with their regular meals.

Extracts of herbal plants like goldenseal, ginkgo biloba and neetle have good antioxidant properties. Apart from these Quercitin is also good antioxidant and is present in extracts of garlic and onion. These can be consumed with other antioxidants like grape fruit juice. They may help to enhance our resistance to allergy.

Apart from this routine acupuncture and yoga can also bring a lot of relief against pollen allergy. In acupuncture needles are used to stimulate various meridians of body and thus resistance against allergy is increased. Practicing some poses of yoga also suffices the same purpose.
