Bad breath, gingivitis and mouth ulcers are common problems of the first part of the digestive system. Health of mouth and gums is governed by proper functioning of the digestive system and maintenance of dental hygiene. Here are few tips and remedies to take care.Home-made Mouth Washes
You can prepare your own mouth washes at home which are safe and which make your gums tighter. Mouth rinse of sage tea and sea salt provides prevention against several gum diseases due to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. To make this boil 250 ml of water and remove from gas.
Put 2 tbsp of powder of dried sage and allow it to be strewed for 15 to 20 minutes. Filter it and add half tbsp of sea salt. Allow to cool down. Take 60 ml of this solution and rinse your mouth after brushing. The solution can be used for 2 days.
For a more delicate mouth wash mix 2 pinches of sea salt in 60 ml of warm water. Rinse your mouth after brushing or flossing your teeth at night.
Add 4 pinch of sea salt and 4 pinch of myrrh extract to 125 ml of warm water. Use this rinse twice everyday. It helps as an effective antibacterial agent and is also helpful against bad breath.
For everlasting fresh breath mix half tbsp of glycerin, 1 tbsp of hazel extract, 3 drops of peppermint essential oil with 125 ml of water. Shake it and rinse your mouth with it every time you wish to refresh your breath.
Ulcers and Sores
Acidic foods like pineapple, oranges and tomatoes are often responsible for ulcers and sores. Here are a few remedies for sensitive gums.
Dab on some powdered myrrh on to the mouth ulcer. Myrrh has great antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. The liquorices from which glycyrrhizic acid has been removed are very helpful in increasing mucous secretion of the mouth and heal the ulcers. It is available in the form of DGL (deglycyrrzinated liquorice) chewable tablets. A tablet of 380 mg can be consumed thrice daily.
Prepare a paste of goldenseal powder with few drops of myrrh and store in sterile gauze. Place it near the sore for 1 hour. Do this twice daily.
