It has many names and has as many benefits. The fruit of jamun or Jambul is easily available. It is probably growing wild behind the bushes of your house. Amazingly, it is so unique yet so ordinarily available . Botanically, it is known as Eugenia jambolana.
As a ripe fruit it is yummy and is available in summer months in India. The pulp carries incredible amounts of nutrients. These consist of antioxidants like tannic acid, Gallic acid and oxalic acids. Some alkaloids are also present in it which gives it a little bitter flavor. It is a rich source of vitamins and minerals.

This powder is then taken with water to bring down sugar levels in diabetic patients.
The juice of the fruits is effective in treating diarrhea and dysentery. The leaves of this plant are used to treat ulcerative colitis in traditional medicine systems. It is also part of herbal tonic preparations. Jamun powder also has property to reduce skin blemishes.
