Health Risks of Being Overweight
Being overweight is not just a body discomfort but it brings many health related problems with it. These are discussed below.Overweight disturbs the functioning of immune system. Risks of various types of cancers like cervical cancer, prostate cancer, and colon and breast cancer increases significantly. Low production of immunoglobulins makes body vulnerable to seasonal infections.
It puts extra load on the organs which lead to improper functioning of the systems. Kidney, lungs and heart suffer the most. Increase in weight leads to development of more number of veins as compared to the size of the organs.
This directly increases pressure on the organs leading to cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure and respiratory problems like high blood pressure, stroke, stroke, high cholesterol and sleep apnea.
The increase in weight, especially due to deposition of the fat causes hormonal imbalance. Example, increase in weight increases production estrogen which leads to fertility related problems. Other problems related to hormonal imbalance are PMS, pregnancy related complications and menopause problems.
For the same reason diabetes is the most common ailment in overweight people. There is a great risk for development of diabetic neuropathy which is loss of functioning of limbs.
Digestive problems such as acidity and gastric reflux are common too, especially in people with weight gain around the abdominal area.
In rare cases, the valve of the abdomen may become non-functional leading to involuntary leakage of urine.
Weight gain effects the reproductive system considerably. The habit of eating processed foods leaves body deprived of essential vitamins and minerals. It not just affects fertility in both men and women but also decreases libido in them. Weight gain around the belly in men increases risk for development of gynecomastia or male breasts.
Prime Factors to Consider
There are certain conditions and habits which do not allow weight loss from the body using normal weight loss techniques. These include water retention, thyroid problems, liver dysfunction, deficiency of certain vitamins and minerals (especially deficiency of calcium) and insulin imbalance due to consumption of excess sugary carbohydrates.
Thus, it is extremely important to keep an eye on your weight. The point is to have a healthy body which is well nourished. Switch to fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water.
