Women in their 60s can lead a healthy life if they take care of a few things. They can increase their life span and even the sex life can remain equally active to what it was a decade ago.
Awareness
Most common diseases because of which women in their 60s die are infection in urinary system, stroke, IHD, cancer, diabetes and cirrhosis.
Maintain healthy hygiene habits and keep yourself physically active. If there is an activity that you like, continue it. Otherwise, try starting with long walks. Yoga, aerobics and swimming are extremely helpful in maintaining flexibility.
Supplementation
Consult your health care consultant before starting any type of supplement. They may interact with the medication causing adverse effects. But it is important to take a multivitamin that is bioavailable. Supplementations of vitamin D and calcium are extremely important.
Check-ups and Screening
You must have a mammogram every 3 years. See yourself naked in front of a mirror. See for presence for any moles or marks that are not normal. You must get done baseline bone-density test every year.
Visit the dentist twice in a year for check-up and cleansing. Visit ophthalmologist to prevent eyes from cataract, glaucoma or any degenerative eye disease. The cervical smear test is done every 5 years.
If you are a diabetes patient, get your glucose levels checked regularly. Your yearly tests can also include thyroid screening test, urinalysis and other blood tests to check for cholesterol levels, etc.
Vaccination
You will be recommended to get yourself vaccinated for flu, pneumonia, tetanus and shingles. The tetanus vaccination is taken every 10 years.
Changes in Lifestyle
You have lived a long life and it is time now for you to relax. Have a positive outlook towards life. Take care of yourself and take responsibility for your own health. Do not depend on anyone to give you medications.
Make women become more religious by this age. It can be extremely helpful in keeping the mind healthy.
Do not stop socializing by thinking that this is not the age to do so. Even if it means going to church every Sunday, make the best out of it. Plan holidays with your friends. Join old-age clubs and participate actively.
