Health Care for Night Workers
The idea of working in the night shifts is not new. The practice has been common especially in armed forces and medical field. The modern world has given us more diversified fields to work in the night time.
And, with the world becoming a global village the same organization may be having two types of staff- the one working in the day and the other working in the night. But this rise in taking up a night shift, whether for part time or full time, is responsible for many health related problems.
Sleep related Problems
Most of night shift goers face one or the other sleep related problems. Most of them face insomnia. Even if there is enough time to sleep night workers may not be able to catch up with their sleep due lack of a comfortable environment.
This problem must be handled at its first stage or it may lead to further health issues such as loss of memory, mood swings, digestive problems, exhaustion and depression. A highly irritated behavior has been observed in people who regularly do night shifts.
For those who have a regular night shift time can have a schedule to follow but those who experience a constant change in their shift should try to sleep for as much hours as possible until they feel fresh.
Dependency on Drugs
Most of night shift goers start taking pills to sleep or feel better. Some even depend too much on energy drinks in order to feel alert and concentrate on their work. This dependency on drugs can be cause serious health damage. It interrupts with the normal working of the body organs and disturbs them fundamentally.
Heart Problems
The stress of the mind and body has been found to be the cause of rise in heart problems in night shift goers. Those who do not keep a watch on their health may develop blood pressure and poor blood circulation problems.
Some Tips to Remember
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables whenever you can. Stay away from preserved and ready-to-eat food stuff. Drinks lots of water and try to exercise 4 to 5 days in a week. If you do not get time then try walking to your work.
