July 2, 2009
Well maintained long, clean nails, beautify the hands. It may take time to cultivate them but the end results are worth it. Long nails are mostly inherited but with good care anyone can have long and enviable nails.
If you want to grow them long, do not bite them. This is the most important step. Most women have habit of biting off their nails. They then use fake nails which weaken the natural strength of the nails. Also, the nail bed is damaged which hinders the growth of nails. So do not bite or put artificial nails. If it is difficult for “you be” remain aware about your nails then put on a bright colored nail polish.
Nails need moisturizing and strengthening. If you have dry or brittle nails then a protein strengthener is must for you. A protein strengthener will have digested collagen or hydrolyzed proteins as the key ingredients. For very dry nails, use a nylon fiber strengthener. If your nails are very fragile and they tend to break often then use formaldehyde nail strengthener. Do not use a preparation carrying more than 5 percent of formaldehyde.
Care for your nails. Wear gloves when you need to wash dishes or do laundry. Do not expose nails to extreme heat conditions or too much water and chemicals. Such exposures damage the cuticles of the nails and hence disturb the growth.
Also, it is important that you wear gloves before gardening. The dirt and the bacteria may stick to the inside of the nails and may become difficult to clean. What you can do is scratch your nails through a soap bar so that soap portions cover the inside of the nails. After gardening, you may simple wash it out and clean it with a tooth pick.
Eat a healthy diet rich in protein. Natural sources of protein include pulses, tofu, kidney beans, cheese, eggs and meat. The more you will have to spare, the more will come out in the form of nails. Lack of calcium and vitamin A may cause brittleness in nails. Dairy products are good source of calcium and vitamin A can be obtained from tomatoes and carrots.
