With immense amount of antioxidant levels in the form of Vitamin E, it acts in many ways in building of a great health. Its biological functions as an antioxidant including prevention against premature ageing, injury of cell membranes, cataracts, cardiovascular diseases, infection and inflammation.Other protective actions include protection of liver against damage. Degenerations of membranes of lungs, urinary tract and digestive tract are also safe-guarded. Grapeseed oil has become a vital ingredient in cosmetic industry these days. Many products based on grapeseed oil are available in market and their demand is increasing regularly. Conditioners are being produced out of it since grapeseed oil provides shiny luster to the hair.
It is also used as a mild astringent and hence used in skin toning and lighting. Due to its light and odorless properties it is well used in massage therapies. With a high smoke point of 420 F it is a healthier choice when it comes to buying cooking oil. In comparison to olive oil, which has a smoke point of only 320F, Grapeseed oil is better for stir-frying as well as sautéing.
The significance of smoke point is that the amount of heat that an oil can tolerate before breaking down and producing free radicals.
The best thing about grapeseed oil is that during cooking it neutralizes these harmful free radicals and hence retains the flavor and freshness of your dish. Interestingly, there is a trick while buying grapeseed oil. One must avoid those Grapeseed oil preparations which have been prepared using hexane as the extraction gas. Best grapeseed oil is prepared by expeller-pressed mechanism. Apart from its use as a cooking oil and an ingredient in cosmetic industry, Grapeseed oil is equally appreciated as a salad dressing constituent.
