The significance of smoke point is that the amount of heat that an oil can tolerate before breaking down and producing free radicals.

Interestingly, there is a trick while buying grapeseed oil. One must avoid those Grapeseed oil preparations which have been prepared using hexane as the extraction gas. Best grapeseed oil is prepared by expeller-pressed mechanism. Apart from its use as a cooking oil and an ingredient in cosmetic industry, Grapeseed oil is equally appreciated  as a salad dressing constituent.
