Get Control on Flatulence
Flatulence is nothing but passing of the accumulated gas in the stomach which may or not be accompanied by a foul smell. Most people deal with it every now and then and often have to face embarrassing situations because of this condition.
There are many cause of flatulence. Those who experience flatulence once in a while either have had a meal rich in wind forming compounds or due to some general indigestion problem.
Another cause could be due to very low physical activity leading to sluggish digestion. Those who regularly face problem of flatulence may suggest that the person is suffering from irritable bowel syndrome or diverticulitis.
Basic Dos and Don`ts
Eating habits play a very critical role in allowing the digestive system to work properly. Gulping down a lot of water while eating food will make the food to remain inside the stomach for a longer period of time and hence cause production of gases. Therefore, water must be avoided during meals.
Rapid consumption of food does not allow the digestive system to work properly and hence the gas is produced from the undigested food. The first stage of digestion is mouth where enzyme amylase. Hence one must always eat slowly.
Stay away from sodas, beers and soft drinks. They all cause accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body and hence cause flatulence. Avoid eating unhealthy snacks. Bad combination of proteins and carbohydrates too can cause considerable flatulence.
Introduce more soluble fiber in your diet so that the system gets some ease. Eating live and healthy bacteria, as in yogurt, is beneficial for those who suffer from flatulence due to digestive problems.
Do not sit by curling your lower body on a low sofa right after the meal because this will facilitate production of flatulence. Also, do not bend your upper body too much. Apart from the flatulence, these habits may cause bloating too.
Herbal Help
There are many herbs that help in treating flatulence based on the causative factor. For example, fennel seeds and Dill help in solving flatulence causing due to occasional indigestion. Chewing peppermint or a very small piece of ginger helps in reducing bowel flatulence. Drinking herbal teas of herbs like Chamomile and Catmint is also helpful.
