Feeling Fatigued Always?
Do you often get tired even though there is no medical diagnosis to give reasoning of it? Well, you are probably suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
Researchers are unable to understand the exact cause of CFS. Studies have been performed on relation of glandular fever virus infection with CFS. But role of the virus is unclear.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Fatigue alone is not enough to conclude about CFS. If the person has been suffering from severe fatigue for more than 6 month then he/she must undergo complete medical examination, including all blood tests. Tests for hormonal imbalance, thyroid functioning and diabetes are of outmost importance.
If all these tests stand negative then it must be made sure that patient is not suffering from clinical depression.
Symptoms of CFS include inability to do daily chores, increased irritability, mood swings and continuous muscle ache. It is important to understand that CFS is different from clinical depression.
ME is more common is women than in men. Women between the age group of twenty and forty are at a great risk. One out of every two hundred is affected by CFS.
Treatment
Children recover faster than adults. An interesting observation is that those with a stronger will-power are able to recover more easily than the rest of the patients.
Most of the patients do not take their condition serious. One needs to accept that they are suffering from something whose cause is unknown. On the other side, those factors should be identified which are worsening the condition. These factors could be disturbance in relationships, failure in life, loneliness, etc.
Resting may not be a good option for most of the patients. Excess rest will put the patient into a never ending cycle of “rest-more tiredness-more restâ€.
Instead, the patient must be asked to perform little activity. Activity will help the patent to have a deep sleep and wake up fresh.
Aromatherapy is found to be extremely helpful in treating CFS. Other alternative treatments include cymatics, chakra balancing and chiropractic. Chakra balancing serves many advances. Chiropractic helps in healing of the stiff muscles and joints.
Most physicians prescribe antidepressants, especially serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. Improvement will be gradual and there are no quick results.
