Effective Ways To Control Bed Wetting

July 2, 2009

Every woman loves to talk about her kid’s achievements but the issue of bed-wetting is never discussed, as everyone feels shy about this problem. Kids feel embarrassed about it but there should be nothing like that. Every second child does bed-wetting but doesn’t tell to it to anyone. Bed-wetting does not indicate any major underlying problem. It is a common problem with growing kids. But the exact cause is not known. It can be present if the kid is a tight sleeper. It is a time being process and goes away after some time.

Bed-wetting even runs in families. So whenever your child wakes up with a wet sheet don’t scold him. Help your child to change the sheet and tell that this is not right and also be supportive. Sometimes a child may dream that he is in the bathroom while sleeping and thus urinates on the bed itself. Don’t let your child have more fluids at night. Don’t give milk or cold drinks before sleeping time. Also, ask him to go to toilet before the sleep. Wake up the kid at midnight so as to go to toilet once. Bed-wetting alarms can also be helpful. Sometimes keeping a reward for not doing bed-wetting can be helpful too.

One needs to consult the doctor when the child suddenly starts doing bed wetting after a long period, starts doing toilet in the pants itself, complains of burning or itching after or during urination or have swelling on the feet or ankles. Doctor would do some tests and check if there is some UTI, constipation, bladder problem, diabetes or some other infection and treat accordingly.

Some home remedies can also be tried to stop bed-wetting. Give walnuts and raisins to the child before going to bed. Ask the child to control the urine during the day for sometime, as this would increase the urine holding capacity of the child. Give a good massage with on the inner thigh of the child before sleeping. Taking cranberry juice before going to bed is also helpful. Ask the child to chew a cinnamon stick anytime during the day. Eating a banana during the day also helps to reduce bed-wetting.
