Delaying Menopause

Women of today are having tough time accepting the early or premature menopause. Those who attain the age of 40 and then suddenly enter menopause are said to be having a pre-mature menopause. Those women who attain the age of 45 years and then undergo menopause are said to be having an early menopause.

A very high percentage of women are entering menopause at an early age. Let us try to understand what is causing this drastic change in bodies of women at a global level.

Common Culprits

A diet low in nutrition significantly effects the functioning of the ovaries. This may lead to zero production of eggs or hormones and hence commencement of menopause.

Those who have undergone surgical procedures for treating ovarian cancer or endometriosis are to at a great risk of developing reduced functioning of the ovaries. Similarly, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may cause either temporary or permanent menopause.

Eating disorders and excessive weight loss as in anorexia are other common factors that speed up the journey to menopause.

Solution

Until now it was believed that women who are born with less number of cells may enter menopause at an early age but according to the recent study it is the stem cells which control the production of eggs and the hormones. The study is yet to be accepted completely.

But this does give a hope that surgical implants of the stem cells could just be the solution for women who enter pre-mature or early menopause.

Nutrition plays a significant role in delaying menopause. A diet that is rich in antioxidants will make sure that hormonal balance is maintained in the body. They also help fighting stress and anxiety.

Practice of yoga and few aerobic exercises strengthen the body and help in delaying menopause. Locust, spine flex, wide angle pose, bow and pelvic arch are most effective yoga positions to strengthen functioning of female reproductive system.

To combat anxiety and stress with yoga, practice positions like child`s pose, sponge, bow and dollar pose.

Hormonal pills, carrying high content of estrogen, may be prescribed to women at risk. The hormone is necessary to maintain menstrual cycle.

Regular sexual intercourse boosts production of estrogen in the body and hence may have a potent role in delaying menopause.
