Dealing With Persistent Cough
Persistent cough must not be ignored. It is often a sign or symptom of some respiratory problem such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or sinus infection. It may be due to a disease of the external ear called chronic postnasal drip.
Gastrointestinal reflux is yet another common factor to cause persistent cough. Continuous exposure to pollutants like pollens, tobacco smoke, dust and industrial chemicals often cause persistent cough.
Certain medications carry chemicals that may make the airway narrow or cause blockage of the airway. This is especially seen in people who are allergic to sulphur.
Home Remedies
Chewing mulethi (Glycerriza glabra) and sucking the liquid inside. Do not consume the wood. Spit it out once the wood piece becomes exhausted.
Boil two cloves of garlic in 300 ml of water. Add 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp lemon juice. Sip it slowly twice every day. It not just brings instant relief to the cough but also cures the problem gradually. Likewise, ginger tea can also be made by using ginger instead of garlic.
Onions juice is yet another effective remedy for persistent cough. For this, bake the onions and extract their juice. Add equivalent amount of honey. In a cup put boiling water and place comfrey tea bag. Add the onion juice and honey mixture and drink after stirring.
One may prepare a cough syrup at home for frequent use during the day. Take honey, ginger juice and freshly ground black pepper. Combine them together in pestle motor and take this syrup three times every day.
Brew some fresh leaves of tulsi in water and stain it. You may add honey and drink the herbal tea as frequently as you may like.
Finely grind 4 almonds and 4 cashew nuts. Add these to a cup of warm milk and drink at bed time. This remedy provides warmth to the body and boosts the immunity.
Things to Remember
Eat a well balanced diet rich in fiber and healthy oils. Avoid non-vegetarian meals, tobacco, caffeine, and excess of spices, cold drinks, ice creams and sugar.
Do not eat those foods which will cool your body. These include green bananas watermelons cucumbers and papayas. Try drinking lukewarm water instead of normal water.
