Dealing with Abortion Guilt
It feels defeated not been able to save a life. After an abortion many women go through a post abortion stress. The abortion guilt may lead to development post abortive syndrome.Though there are drugs and therapies to deal with the condition, here are a few psychological tips to deal with abortion guilt.
Blame Game
There are endless reasons why a woman had to abort her child. It may be due to financial problems, lack of husband`s consent, etc. The women will show her anger on her husband which may put their marriage in jeopardy.
After a long term relationship if a woman conceives by accident, and her boyfriend asks her to get rid of it, it may leave a very strong impact on the girl; making it difficult to forgive him or allow any new man to enter her life.
Despite of knowing who is responsible for the abortion, the women should be made understood that no one needs to be blamed. It had to happen, so it has happened.
Staying in the “blaming phase†will not allow the women to get over it, ever.
Fixing Shaken Faith
Women who are religious may find their faith completely shaken. They may find themselves confused and evil. She must be told that we are but humans and there are many things that are not in our hands.
Spiritual or meditation centers may be able to extend a helping hand to such a woman. It is important for the woman to accept what has happened and get on with her life.
Why Regret?
There is no point regretting anything. The choice has been made and the operation has been done. Those who are always near her must never bring up this topic.
If she brings it up repeatedly make her understand that nothing can be done about it, it is in the past. She has her whole life ahead of her, she must move on. Try doing it cheerfully.
Swap Guilt with Deed
The woman can contribute some of her time to the children in orphanage. She may try to help out in community service, anything related to children. Spending time with them, watching them being happy, may be help her get over the abortion guilt.
