De-stress the Herbal Way

Many a times we take pills in order to get rid of stress. These medications are not just addictive but often have serious side effects associated with them. Plus, there is always complication of an overdose. So, it is better to choose herbal, safer option to de-stress yourself.

Stress is often the root cause of insomnia, weakness, irritable behavior, lack of alertness, weaker nervous system, fatigue, etc. We give you some incredible herbs to de-stress your mind and body and lead a healthier life.

Sip on more chamomile and green tea. These teas are not just refreshing but help in improving stressed bowel movements and insomnia. The Chamomile tea is helpful in rheumatic complaints.

Valerian roots function as nerve tonic. It is helpful in treating panic attacks, emotional stress and daily nervous exhaustion. Additionally, the herb is able to bring relief in case of menstrual cramps, nerve pain, headaches, constipation and indigestion. Disturbed bowels often occur due to physical and mental stress.

Lemon balm is well known to treat all types of headaches. It also helps in treating anxiety and emotional stress. This balm has a very strong smell. The aroma is said to perform the desired function. The balm can be rubbed with gentle movement on the forehead and on chest.

The popular St John’s Wort is found to contain hypercin which is used to treat depression. Interestingly, according to a research, the more the herb is attacked by the predators (e.g. insects), the more is the anti-anxiety property of this herb.

One of the well known herbs, Ashwagandha, is a nerve booster. It is not just an anti-stress herb but is an immunity booster, a sedative, a diuretic and a powerful aphrodisiac. Leaves of Ashwagandha can be chewed raw. The herb can also be consumed as a liquid marketed preparation.

The Kava Kava is available as a brown powder. It can be mixed with water to consume as a beverage. But the herb may cause liver damage in large doses. Therefore, it must not be consumed more than three times a week.

Ginseng, the anti-ageing herb also helps you get rid of stress effectively. Daily supplements often contain ginseng in the preparations. The herb increases immunity and mental alertness.

    Thanks for this interesting methods of getting rid of anxiety! Anxiety may lead to depression!!! So we should try to overcome anxiety as it affects a person’s thoughts in such a way that the person doesn’t see when a problem can be overcome. It’s as if the depression puts a filter on the person’s thinking that distorts things. Someone with severe depression is unable to see the possibility of a good outcome and may believe they will never be happy or things will never go right for them again.

    Great post with tons of helpful ideas, you have certainly gave me a few to try ! Deep breathing exercises are excellent for anxiety and many people report positive results from meditation. Some other natural anxiety remedies to look into are SAMe, L-Theanine, and Tryptophan. Hope this helps!
