Daily Health Care
Staying fit is all about how you treat yourself each day at home. Good health and fitness do not come in one day but it is achieved with the health choices you make daily.
Role of Food
Eating well is the most critical issue in staying fit. Cut down on fat and eat 5 to 6 small meals in a day rather than 3 heavy meals. To decrease consumption of extra fat you will need to avoid fried food and fatty meats like salami, sausages, bacon, ham and pork.
Dairy products are rich source of calcium and vitamins but these must be taken in low-fat versions only. Also, avoid extra cheese toppings in your sandwiches and salads. Fat free cheeses, mayonnaise, fish and lean meets are healthier options.
Cravings for between-the meals can be satisfied by eating nuts like almonds, walnuts and cashews. These are rich source of vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids. If you like tea and coffee try using brown sugar instead of white sugar.
Make sure to eat one serving of fruits each day. Freshly cut fruits are high in fiber, nutrients and very refreshing.
Drink at least 10 glasses of water but do not drink more than 5 liters. It is a myth that drinking too much water will keep your stomach full and help you get over craving for food. Instead, drinking excess water actually makes your body lose necessary electrolytes.
Dental Care
Dental care is a major part in staying fit but it is often ignored. Good oral habits will help in prevention of common gum diseases and bad breath. According to a study it has been found that flossing of teeth is related to longer life span of a person. The exact mechanism is not yet understood.
Regular Check-ups
Get yourself regularly checked. Most common tests include blood glucose level and blood pressure. Women must undertake bone density test each year. In case of any sudden change in your physical appearance or emotional stability consult your physician.
Keep stress at bay with good sleep and regular exercise. An adult must take 6 to 8 hours of sleep each day. Cigarette smoking, excess consumption of alcohol and caffeine cause trouble in getting a good sleep. Endorphins produced by regular exercise help in dealing with day-to-day stress.
