One way is to increase production of endorphins in your body. These natural mood-elevating chemicals are released inside the body. Exercising and laughter therapy are great ways to increase endorphin release. 45 minute brisk walk is extremely effective. Many people like to get addicted to their exercise regime.

Studies shows that people who and exercise regularly are at a very low risk of developing depression. Also, many candidates reported to feel low when they had to miss their work out session.

If exercising in gym bores you then join an outdoor game like badminton, basket ball, tai chi or swimming. It gives an opportunity to meet more people and socialize; a major factor that helps in letting go of the depression.

Herbal Way

The anti-depressant chemicals hypericin and hyperforin present in St. John` wort are extremely helpful in treating depression. The herb is available in the form of powder and tablet, as an OTC preparation. 300 mg of St. John`s wort or a preparation which contains 5 percent of hyperforin and 0.3 percent of hypericin can be consumed 3 times in a day.

The herb should not be consumed during pregnancy or by lactating mothers. A person undergoing liposuction treatment for weight loss should also not consume St. John`s wort.

Lavender can be used either as a powdered herb or in form of essential oil to elevate your mood. Add 10 drops each of lavender essential oil and bergamot essential oil to warm bath and remain in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes.

Put 3-4 drops of lavender oil to your handkerchief. Sniff it every time you feel low.

Yoga Help

Breathing exercises in yoga are extremely help in reducing stress and depression. Sit and close your eyes. Focus on your natural breathing pattern. Using right thumb block the right nostril by pressing from the side. Breathe in through the left nostril. Place first finger to the side of the left nostril and block it. Breathe out through the right nostril. Next time use your left hand and repeat process with left nostril.
