Condoms

Condoms and contraceptive pills are most common form of contraception methods in practice. But we choose condoms as our topic of discussion for today.

Condoms are made up of rubber latex and are flexible enough to be rolled on the penis before the intercourse. They come in great varieties and even greater flavors like chocolate, pan (Indian betel leaf), strawberry, minted.

It has been observed that if used as per manufacturer’s guidelines, it is efficacious in providing contraception up to 98%. The 2% risk includes due to slipping off of the condom or splitting during the intercourse.

The condom must be unrolled only at the time of putting it on the penis. Some place must be left at the tip of the condom. Note must be taken not to let any air passage.

Only water based lubricants must be used like glycerin and oil based lubricants should never be used with male condoms. The condom once used must be thrown and must not be used again.

Condom actually prevents transfer of Sexually transmitted diseases STDs. The myth that HIV can pass through condom is not correct. The microorganism, sperms as well and any form of infecting agents are completely barrier by the condom. Latex condoms are most effective in preventing pregnancy as well as any form of infectious diseases.

The misconception that condoms are not effective since they break easily is also wrong. They will only break if you use oil based lubricants which weakens the latex. Split can be caused due to finger nails.

If the condoms are old they will tend to break soon. Try to buy the most recent packing from the condom counter. Many men have the habit of keeping condoms in their pockets or wallets. This might cause wear out due to heat. The breakage rates of condoms, when bought from a standard company, is just 2%
