Complaint Of Nervous System And Their Treatments

March 18, 2010

The nervous system bears the responsibility of transmitting and receiving signals to and from all parts of the body and hence maintains it as one unit.

Any malfunctioning in the system affects the body significantly. Major problems of nervous system are anxiety, tension, stress, depression, loss of vitality, headaches and sleeping problems.

Anxiety

Symptoms of anxiety include inability of the mind and body to relax, muscular cramps, irritability and unproductive thoughts. Nervine relaxants like St. John`s wort, vervain, wild Betony, lime flower, chamomile and lavender are extremely helpful in case of anxiety. Wood Betony is especially helpful in case of fear related tension.

As a regular tonic, equal quantities of peppermint and vervain should be mixed and drunk daily. Small amount of lemon balm can be applied to the sides of the forehead. The aroma is useful in reducing tension in people who face work-related anxiety.

Depression and Loss of Vitality

Constant stress to the nervous system leads to reduction in both physical and mental energy. Change in diet and lifestyle are important in addition to the herbal remedies. Nervine tonics stimulate the nervous system and revitalize it.

These lift depression and restore both mental and physical energy of the body. These herbs are sage, skullcap, vervain, wild Betony, borage and oats.

For more serious condition rosemary and St. John`s wart is prescribed by the herbalist to be used for a longer time period. The herbs can be consumed in the form of tea.

For example, rosemary, lemon balm and vervain can be taken in equal amounts and brewed in hot water. Other combination is of Oats, St John`s wart, rosemary with a little amount of ginger (shredded).

Headaches

Headaches are very common in people with stressed nervous system. Hormonal imbalance, eye problems, blood pressure, digestive problems, allergies and anxiety are major causes of headaches.

All nervine tonics are helpful in reducing headaches. Lavender and rosemary are especially useful for stress related headaches.

Sleeping Problems

Lack of enough sleep leaves no room for revitalization for the mind and body. Common sleeping problems are frequent waking up during the night, waking up early in the morning and disturbed dreams. Nervine relaxants like lavender, lime flower and chamomile are useful for sleeping problems.
