Common Eye Problems and their Care

Styes

Stye is the name given to the sore of the eye which develops in the glands lying at the base of the eyelashes due to infected. The area appears inflamed and turns into a sore within 2-3 days. Each sore remains for about 5 days. During this period it becomes filled with fluid which flows out once the sore bursts open.

In order to heal the stye, it is important to bring it to a head. This can be achieved by applying warm compress to the sore after every 3 hours. It also helps in reducing pain.

Herbal compress are more effective than plain water compress. The herbal compress can be done by soaking cotton cloth in an herbal infusion.

Herbal infusion can be prepared by mixing equal amounts of distilled water and rose water. Likewise, elderflower, marsh mallow, burdock can be used to prepare the infusion.

Eye Stain

Common symptoms of eye strain are that you are unable to look at the computer screen, read or do anything that requires an effort from the eyes. Over worked eyes may lead to more complicated eye problems. Hence, eye strain should be taken seriously.

Close your eyes. Rub palms against each other to create warmth. Apply this warmth on the eyes. Repeat this for 5 to 6 times.

Apply cotton pads dipped in rose water to the eyes for 10 o 15 minutes. Good sleep is a great way to rejuvenate strength of the eyes.

Conjunctivitis

It develops as a result of an infection or an allergic reaction. There is watery discharge from the eyes and eyes develop a visible yellowish crust. The eye becomes reddish and feels itchy.

Decoctions of herbs like nettle, coriander, chamomile, rose and limeflower are helpful in curing conjunctivitis.

Tips to Prevent Infection

Never share you towel with anyone. Women should avoid sharing make up products which come in contact with open area. For example, sharing of kajal stick, mascara and puff of compact powder should be avoided.

Always wash your eyes after coming from outside. Daily use of eye drop tonics helps in preventing infection.
