Clinical Features of Impetigo

Impetigo is a skin infection, which mainly affects the children. In this condition, blisters are formed on the face, neck, hands and diaper area. School going children are very much affected by impetigo.

The situation becomes worst if there is any other skin problem such as any mosquito bite, eczema etc. It can be prevented if you care for your skin. Any pimple or rash scratched can be the cause of impetigo.

Types

There are two types of impetigo; bullous impetigo and non-bullous impetigo. Non-bullous impetigo starts with a small blister, which burst and fluid comes out of it. After that a tan or brown patch covers it.

Bullous impetigo is one from which large amount of fluid comes out. These burst after a long time and take more time to heal.

Impetigo is contagious and other children can also be affected. Even children can also spread it to other body parts by scratching them and then touching other parts of the body.

Treatment

One has to be very careful with impetigo. If you treat a single blister then it would not spread but if you did not notice the single one you can let them spread them on your body. So as soon as you get one blister, treat it immediately.

Apply some antibiotic ointment on it. While the infection heals, keep on cleaning the area using a gauge and some antiseptic liquid. If the condition still becomes bad, consult the doctor who would suggest some antiseptic pills so that impetigo heals fast. For children it is good to cover the blisters.

Prevention

It is easy to prevent impetigo. Wash the hands and face of your child every time your child returns from school, garden or any where from outside. See that children take bath every day and use soap and shampoos regularly. Every body in the home should use different towels.

Aloe vera is also good to treat impetigo. Applying garlic oil or olive oil is also good home remedy. Take fresh fruits in your and avoid fried food.

Consulting the dermatologist becomes necessary when the symptoms become worse.
