Causes of Oral Ulcers

Ulcers of mouth are much trouble. I remember a friend of  mine  complaining  how her life became tasteless after mouth ulcers took her. Mouth ulcers occur when the mucous membrane ruptures. It affects the lip and the internal mouth region. There are many types of oral ulcers. Similarly, there are different causes for ulcers.

Ulcers often occur due to infection’s could be due to virus Herpes simplex, where is called viral infection.  The viral infection would produce multiple vesicles which burst and are quite painful. Other viruses which can cause oral ulcers include Varicella Zoster and Coxsackie A virus. Bacteria Treponema pallidun and Mycobacterium tuberculosis cause oral ulcers.

Minor physical injuries like dental braces, eating of excessive salty food or eating abrasive foods can also rupture the epithelium tissue of the mouth. It is because of this reason that before doing some abrasive work on teeth, the dentists apply coat of Vaseline.

Chemical injuries may become yet another cause of mouth ulcers. The irritant drugs like aspirin and alcoholic beverages corrode the sensitive epithelium. Those who have a tendency to develop oral ulcers must check that their tooth paste must not carry sodium lauryl sulfate. This has been one of the main chemical causes for oral ulcers.

Your diet may be yet another cause for oral ulcers. By consumption of barley, rye and wheat an ulcer based disease Coelic disease can occur. Also, deficiency of some minerals and vitamins has been linked to occurrence of oral ulcers. Deficiency of vitamin C leads to scurvy. Vitamin C is necessary for strong immunity and lack of it leads to poor healing power of the cells. Many people use flovents but do not wash it out properly. This is yet another  cause of oral ulcers.

Autoimmune conditions may be the culprit. Mucus membrane pemphigoid is an autoimmune disease which causes ulceration of the mucous membrane.
