Cause And Remedies For Night Sweats

Night sweats or Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which excess sweating is experienced at night. Night sweats may be a reflection of some serious health disease or condition.

They hinder peaceful night sleep. It is therefore important to know about night sweats. Home remedies are helpful to quite an extent in getting relief but the treatment generally involves medication, hypnosis and surgery.

Cause of Night Sweats

There are many factors which cause night sweats.  Hormonal changes, especially during menopause can be the reason for the night sweat. Many women who go through menopause face this problem. In men, most common cause of night sweat is stress and anxiety.

Men are more prone to stress due to lesser amount of estrogen in their body. Therefore, during stages in life when there are stressful periods, men face sleepless nights because of night sweat.

A person suffering from cancer of lymphocytes may show night sweats as one of the chief symptoms of the disease. Night sweats are common in very hot seasons. A person sleeping in a place which is not very well ventilated or is very warm, has more tendency to face night sweats. Sleeping without blankets and fanning frequently may help.

Inflammation during tuberculosis may lead to night sweats. But these symptoms fade once the treatment is started. Certain medication may also be responsible for this condition. Psychiatric and antidepressant drugs may lead to night sweats. Contraceptive pills, corticosteroid preparations, drugs containing nitroglycerin and acetaminophen also increase the risk of Hyperhidrosis.

Herbal Remedies

Drinking sage tea at the time of going to bed helps in bringing some relief. You can prepare the tea by taking fresh leaves in a cup of hot water. Let them remain there for 10 minutes, strain and add honey to taste. Do not drink it when it is warm. Allow it to cool down. You may consume 15 drops of extract of Motherwort thrice daily. Decoction of chaste berry is helpful.

Role of Diet

It has been found that eating food that a rich in zinc help in reducing sweat. Natural source of zinc are whole grains, turkey, nuts and legumes. On the other hand, you should avoid using foods that may aggravate your sweating. So, avoid garlic and fish.
