Caring For New Baby

July 28, 2009

For new parents baby care is the most important question. Some parents do not know what to do with their newly born babies. Here are some simple tips that could help you to keep your baby healthy.

As you return from the hospital with your baby, make sure that your baby bed is ready in a clean room and all bed sheets that you use should be properly washed in a disinfectant even if new.

Do not make the newborn baby wear any synthetic clothes. Make him wear soft cotton clothes.

If you are giving bottle feed to your baby then take extra precautions. Always boil the bottle before using and use boiled water for the feed. After the feed let the baby burp before he is layed down on the bed otherwise baby could vomit.

Breastfeeding is most important for the baby in first 6 months as it contains special nutrients needed by the baby for growth and also to remain infection free. When a mother is giving breast-feeding, she must take a healthy diet.

Vaccination is another important part of baby care. Read the vaccination schedule carefully and get the vaccination done for the baby on time.

Use mild soaps and shampoos on the baby or you can use raw milk on the baby’s body. Always massage the baby before bath as it gives strength to the baby. When you massage the stomach the extra gases present get released and the baby does not suffer from colic problem. After the bath always give gripe water to the baby as it helps to keep the stomach healthy.

Never leave your baby in wet nappy. This could cause rashes on the baby’s nappy area. Always change the diapers after every three hours. If the rash appears apply diaper rash cream on the area and leave the area uncovered for sometime.

It is not necessary that the baby is hungry whenever he wakes up at night and cries. First find out the cause of crying, make out if the nappy is wet or he has some other problem. If you started feeding him if would make a habit of this and do it often. Also never wake up the child fully when he is crying during midnight, change the nappy or feed him as required quietly and this way he would sleep fast.
