Caring For Menorrhagia

Menorrhagia is the term used to define a condition of heavy menstrual bleeding in women. The condition causes much weakness to the body and may even hint at a serious illness developing n the body.

Symptoms

Heavy bleeding such that more than one sanitary napkin is used within an hour. Excess fatigue, persistent pain in lower abdomen calf and/or thigh regions, bleeding is accompanied by thick blood clots and iron deficiency all are major symptoms of menorrhagia.

Women are unable to do physical chores due to weakness and prefer to lay down for most of the time. They are unable to carry out regular daily functions and the condition disrupts their lifestyle.

Cause

Primarily, vitamin K deficiency and use of anticoagulant drugs have been most common cause of menorrhagia.

Health conditions such as fibroids, PCOD (polycystic ovarian syndrome), PMS, endometritis, endometrial cancer, hemophilia or other bleeding disorders are often accompanied by menorrhagia.

Excess physical activities like gymnastics, rise in levels of estrogen to a hyper state (hyper estrogenic state) in the body are other factors that may cause heavy bleeding.

Remedies

Before we talk about trusted home remedies there are certain things we need to remember. Women suffering from menorrhagia must quit smoking, alcohol and caffeine immediately.

Cut down on eating spicy and junk food. They must eat health and a nutritious diet in order to make-up for the excess blood lost. Fresh juices of pomegranate, amla, grapes and sugarcane help in providing instant energy in this condition.

Boil some cilantro seeds in water such that water is 3 parts more than the amout of cilantro taken. When it reduces to half add sugar candy (sticky/chewy). Drink it for 3 days daily. Those with PMS should avoid it. The sugar may cause bloated feeling.

A paste made of leaves of pomegranate and rice grains (taken in equal quantities) can be taken two times every day. The remedy not just helps in reducing bleeding but also helps in gaining strength. Put one tbsp in 60 ml of gooseberry juice and rink it every day.

Consume natural sources of vitamin K, C and flavanoids. Vitamin K is essential for coagulation of the blood and Vitamin C and flavanoids protect capillaries from damage, making them stronger.
