Bulimia Nervosa
Bulimia nervosa is yet another type of eating disorder. It is more sere since it includes symptoms of binge eating also. Bulimia nervosa is a psychological disorder. There are serious of effects and complications attached to it. Here is more.
Symptoms of people suffering form bulimia are much diverse and detailed. Bulimia patents often start with binge eating. Then they will try to do something about getting out what all have been eaten. The binge episodes force the person to eat much more than that is required for any normal person.
The person is too critical about their body shape and weight they are constantly thinking about what they eat.They are some what related to anorexia as well. This is a period when they just do not eat anything.
Bulimia nervosa is of two types. One is Purging type and the second one is Non-purging type. The bulimics which cause self induced vomiting in order to remove food from their system are said to have purging type bulimia. They ill use diuretics and laxatives in excess in order to expel food before it start to get digested by the body. They also try to do gag reflex and consume emetics. This is ore common type of bulimia.
The non-purging type is when they w ill exercise, often after a binge episode, to burn away the fat. This occurs to 6 to 8% of bulimics.The onset of bulimia often starts at teenage. The age between 13 and 20 is the most crucial stage. This is the time when everyone is becoming aware about their body.
There is often a lot of social pressure and high expectancies. Therefore it becomes important that parents guide the children before hand about healthy eating. If untreated, bulimia can lead to peptic ulcer, constipation, inflammation in esophagus, dehydration electrolyte imbalance to name a few. There is no single therapy for bulimia .
