Breast Discomforts
August 8, 2009
Breast discomfort is very common among women. Whenever any hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body, the breasts respond to it. It occurs especially when the levels of estrogen are disturbed in the body.
This can happen at menopause, pregnancy and menstruation. When there is any problem with the breast it would become hot, tender, swollen and painful.
Breast discomforts are high during pregnancy as there are many hormonal changes going on in the body. Also, before and during the menstrual cycle, breast discomforts occur and vanish away as the cycle gets finished.
This is known as cyclic breast pain that occurs in both the breasts making them tender and heavy and the pain may even extend to the underarm region. If the pain does not go away with periods then do not wait for anything and consult your doctor immediately. Any extra changes in the breast should also be told to the doctor.
Sometimes wearing a loose fitted bra can also cause pain in the breast. Wear a supportive bra. Bra should not be too tight or too loose. Using an ice pack over the breast can cool down the swelling in the breast.
Sometimes breast discomforts can be due to water retention problem also. If the reason is this then cut the intake of salt, as it is the main cause of water retention in the body. Caffeine is also not good as it stimulates the breast tissues and may cause pain.
Reducing weight can also be helpful. Women store oestrogen in the body fat. So if the fat were cut down from the body then the levels of oestrogen would also go down. That is why it is said that women who do regular exercise and maintain their weight have comparatively less problems related to breasts.
Sometimes lumps get formed on the breast. According to the doctors all the lumps are not cancerous. Sometimes a lump gets formed before the periods and goes away after the cycle. Keep on checking the breast area for any lump. Do not panic but keep a note of it and if does not go away within few days then consult the doctor.
