Benefits of Swimming

Swimming is a healthy activity that is done as an exercise as well as for leisure. It is suitable for every age group and the benefits it can give you are also very good.

You can be a good runner, jumper or any activity player but this can put your weight on your knees and may prove harmful. However, swimming games can be good exercises without putting your weight on knees and legs.

Swimming if done regularly can be good for cardiovascular disorders and can also strengthen your muscles. It is said to maintain your blood pressure and cholesterol levels too.

Swimming also helps to relax your mind by making your body cool. You also burn calories while swimming that is good to control your weight. About 300 calories can be burnt through this activity in half an hour.

People with arthritis and back pain problems would get great relief from it. Swimming includes almost every muscle of the body. It is good for lungs, reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack and also controls diabetes. Pregnant woman are also benefited from it.

Swimming as well as other water exercises when done with good stretching workouts can improve your flexibility. It helps to regulate breathing by passing more oxygen in the muscles, which help to reduce stress and give peace of mind.

Many children are afraid of water. So, swimming should be introduced during early childhood to remove the fear from child’s mind otherwise it may even become a phobia.

Once we start swimming we would be addicted to it as it relaxes the mind and provides peace.

But some things are to be kept in mind while swimming. Always have a trainer near you in case of emergency. Do the necessary stretching exercise before swimming to avoid cramping. Start with less time and gradually increase the time. Alcohol should be avoided before and during swimming. Also taking frequent breaks while swimming reduces weight more fastly.
