Being Aware of Your Heart
Is it not alarming enough that 50 % of the US population has risk of developing cardiovascular diseases? One out of every 7 adult is in the danger zone. The best we can do is to remain aware about early warning signals of heart diseases and the ways following which the risk can be reduced.
Warning Sign to look out for:
Most common sign experienced is pain in the chest. Patients often ignore the “slight stiffness†in the chest which sooner or later develops into excruciating pain in the chest, which usually spreads to left shoulder, left forearm or jaw region. These symptoms are of an advanced stage of angina.
When something goes wrong with the heart valves, the oxygen requirement of the body is not sufficed. Hence, one may experience shortness of breath, weakness and palpitation. Apart from this, the patient may experience sudden gain in weight and water retention in the body.
For ischemia, symptoms are almost same as those that occur due to shortage of oxygen. The patient may experience shortness of breath. Heart beat is very high even at rest (tachycardia).
Hence, as soon as you experience any of the above signs or symptoms you should consult the doctor immediately.
Habits to Revive your Heart`s Health:
You will need to keep a check on your cholesterol levels. HDL is the good cholesterol and LDL is the bad cholesterol. All foods and habits that boost levels of HDL in the body are beneficial for the heart.
Eat rich antioxidant diet and stay away from excess fats. Fish is a great source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Lemon, mangosteen, green tea, cheddar cheese and blueberries are powerful antioxidants.
Regulate your salt intake and indulge in a glass of red wine 3 to 4 times in a week.
Physical exercises promote health of the heart. 45 minutes of brisk walking can considerably cut down the risk of heart attack. Shake sheets often, join a dance class or do your house chores yourself; but burn your calories.By making changes in your lifestyle, you can give a new life to your heart.
