Did you know lips do not have oil glands? Therefore, they are sensitive towards changes in environment like heat, wind and cold. Read more to take care of lips and provide them a pink texture.
Home-made Lip Balms
Home-made lip balms provide natural antioxidants to the lips in most pure form possible. Mix 1 tbsp of honey, 4 tbsp of almond oil and 1 tbsp of grated (and then melted) beeswax. Stir the mixture thoroughly. Keep beeswax at a warm temperature in order to allow thorough mixing of the ingredients.
Almond oil forms a thin protective layer on the lips and honey moisturizes them to provide softness. Beeswax is a great base to maintain ingredients on the lips for a longer time. Peppermint lip balm brings relief to lips damaged by summer sun.
Add 10 drops of peppermint essential oil to 1 tbsp of honey. Apply it to the lips at bedtime. You may add 10 drops each of grapefruit essential oil and lavender essential oil instead of peppermint. These essential oils help in lightening shade of the lips.
Likewise, add 5 drops of chamomile and 10 drops of neroli essential oil to 1 tbsp of honey. Rose essential oil can also be used.
Chapped Lips
Empty contents of a 400 IU vitamin E capsule and mix with 1 tbsp of honey and 5 drops of lavender oil. Mix 1 tbsp of lemon juice with 1 tbsp of honey. Apply at bedtime. You may mix lemon juice with sweet almond oil for softening and healing the lips.
Lip Scrubs
Mix 5 drops of sweat almond oil to half tbsp of sugar granules. Apply it to the lips and rub gently to scrub off dead skin from the lips.
Soak 2 almonds overnight. Peel one almond and grind in pestle and motor. Add few drops of glycerin. Rub this paste on lips. Leave for 2 minutes then wash off. Apply a lip balm.
Tips to Remember
Do not chew your lips. To get rid of the habit, apply a lipstick that tastes bad. Use good quality lip products. Do not apply your saliva to the lips even if they feel dry. Saliva application makes lip dryer. Eat foods rich in beta-carotene like beetroot and carrots. Drink plenty of water.
