January 29, 2010

Eyes are sensitive and hence become stressed easily. A few hours in sun or on computer can significantly put burden on its tender tissues.

It is therefore important to take care of eyes. Here are a few home remedies for almost all types of eye problem that you may face in daily life.

Saggy Eyes

Water retention is a common cause of puffy eyes. All such factors which reduce retention are helpful. One needs to keep a check on salt, coffee and alcohol intake. Drink plenty of water and foods like watermelon which act as natural diuretics.

Freeze some large spoons overnight. Place them on the eyes. Do this simple remedy for 15 days and see the difference yourself.

Dip cotton balls in chilled cucumber water and apply on eyes for 15 minutes. One may use chilled milk instead of cucumber juice.

Puffiness in eyes could also be due to excess temperature around the eyes. Massage scalp with cold curd and keep for 30 minutes. Wash with fresh water afterwards. Boil 4 tbsp of fennel seeds in 4 glasses of water. Allow it to cool down. Use this solution to wash your eyes early morning. It maintains circulation of blood inside the eyes and improves its power.

Dark Circles

Dark circles are result of excess stress to the eyes and lack of enough sleep. Take minimum of 8 hours of sleep every day to avoid dark circles. Dark circles can be removed using simple home remedies like chilled tea bags. The caffeine present in tea bags reduces water accumulation inside the eyes and improves circulation.

Soak a few almonds overnight and grind to make a smooth paste. Add a few drops of lemon juice and apply it around the eyes. Keep the eyes closed for 15 minutes. Wash it with fresh water.

Boil a potato and allow it to cool down. Mash it to make a paste. Add half tbsp of honey and few drops of lemon. Keep it in fridge. Apply it when cold and keep for 10 minutes then wash it off.

Tired Eyes

Blink your eyes for 10-15 seconds continuously. Do this every hour during your working hours. Rub your hands together and apply the warmth to the eyes. These simple exercises maintain flexibility of eye muscles and reduce stress.
