Asthma Care
Asthma is a tricky condition. There are many reasons which may lead to development of asthma in an individual. In most cases it is an inherited condition. Asthma could occur in response of some allergic reaction, due to bronchitis irritability, tobacco smoke or cold weather. Nevertheless, there are some first aid tips to take care of asthma.
Herbal Tips
It is important to know the cause of asthma in order to use herbal remedies. There are some herbs that help in dilation of the bronchial passageway and there are others that simply reduce the allergic response. For example, lavender helps in reducing inflammation of the air passage and decreases irritation in the bronchitis. Infusions of herbs like Chamomile and Eyebright are also useful in asthma.
A few drops of the essential oils of Lavender, Bergamot and Frankincense can be massaged gently on the chest to relax the congestion in the chest and allow better passage of the air. For those who experience seasonal asthmatic attacks due to cough and cold, this is a good remedy for them. A few drops of these herbal oils could be dabbed on a handkerchief which can be sniffed as and when needed.
Breathing Exercises
Breathing exercises not just help in improving the condition but also helps in prevention. Here are some breathing exercises to practice for an asthma patient.
Bring your hands on the upper stomach such that they are placed on the breast bone. Breath in and allow the stomach to expand a little so that the hands move outwards in response to the movement of the diaphragm. Hold the position for a few seconds then breathe out to bring the stomach inwards. Repeat four times.
Blowing air balloons is a fun away to do a deep breathing exercise for asthma patients. In order to increase your breathing capacity, keep blowing the balloon till it bursts.
Doing anulon vilom is another great away to keep the bronchial passage dilated.
Precautions
It is always good to know your triggering agents. Always keep your medications in your bag. Avoid eating spicy and cold food stuff as it may initiate coughing leading to an asthma attack.
Just because someone has asthma it does not mean they cannot lead a physically active lifestyle. Long walks in morning and evening are very helpful for asthma patients.
