Anemia: Cause and Care
Anemia is more common in women than in men. Though there are many types of anemia but we are referring to the condition in which there are a reduced number of red blood cells (RBCs) the bloodstream.
Cause
There are several factors that may cause anemia. It could be due to lack of nutrition, excess stress, irregular menstrual bleeding or great blood loss due to an injury. Some people deal with reduced secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It acts as a digestive enzyme.
The absence leads to anemia. Patients of piles (bleeding piles), diabetes and those undergone a difficult surgery also face temporary or permanent anemia. It is mainly due to decreased ability of the bone marrow to form RBCs that causes this condition.
Symptoms
Early fatigue, weakness and frequent headaches are common symptoms of anemia. Mental confusion, memory loss, irritability and pale skin are other common symptoms. Few patients experience restless leg syndrome (RLS), depression and hair loss.
Remedies
Eating a nutritious diet is a remedy in itself for the anemic person. Doing meditation and yoga exercises will help the person to deal with stress and thus improve functioning of the organs. It helps in dealing with weakness of the body.
Try to take cold baths. Eating foods rich in iron immediately improve the condition. These include strawberries, raisins, bananas, black grapes, tomatoes and radish.
Pour honey in your salads from the next time. Honey is a great source of B-complex vitamins and iron. It is easily digested and hence one of the top bio-available foods.
As a remedy, mash 1 tbsp of honey with one ripe banana and eat. Drink apple juice or orange juice 2-3 times in a week. Juices (liquids) are more bio-available than solid foods. Similar benefits are achieved by drinking fresh juices made of carrots, spinach and bitter guard.
Eat nuts like almonds and raisins as snacks everyday. They both are rich source of iron and vitamins.
Soak 5 brahmi leaves and 5 almonds separately at night. In the morning crush them together and add honey to make a paste. Consume it with a small glass of warm water. The remedy is very effective in boosting the immune system and increasing RBC count. Additionally, it is a great eye tonic.
