All About Fever And Acute HIV Syndrome
The immunodeficiency virus (commonly known as HIV) causes Acute HIV infection. This virus is one of the most dangerous and harmful viruses for the human body as it can completely destroy the immune system.
Causes Of HIV infection
There are many ways by which the HIV virus can get transmitted:
Sexual contact
Breastfeeding (very rare)
The virus may also get transmitted through the placenta of an infected mother to the baby
Through contaminated blood products and blood transfusions.
Why Is It Very Important To Identify Acute HIV
Firstly an early identification of HIV will provide ample time to the patient to take precautions that will check the spread of the virus. Also if the patient is aware, then he or she will not spread the virus to anyone else- be it by sexual contact or blood transmission.
Early applications of antiretroviral medications limit the spread of HIV initially. Thus it allows the immune system to stay active for a longer period. Otherwise the immune system will get weaker every day.
Symptoms
Symptoms are usually observed after one or four weeks of getting infected. However some patients have not experienced any sort of symptoms. The HIV infections which do not produce any symptoms or signs are known as asymptomatic infections.
But mostly infected people do experience symptoms that are similar to flu, sore throat or swollen lymph. Symptoms generally appear in five ways: gastrointestinal infections, psychiatric episodes, pulmonary infections, malignancies and tumors as well as few opportunistic infections.
Infection Symptoms
Decreased appetite
Fever
Fatigue
Headache
Muscle aching or stiffness
Ulcers of the esophagus and mouth
Malaise
Sore throat
Rash
Swollen lymph glands
All these symptoms indicate the fact that the immune system of the body is weakening. The HIV virus then continues to destroy the immune system. These symptoms are collectively referred to as the acute retroviral syndrome. After the symptoms period, the latency period starts which is the second stage of infection. It is to be noted that the HIV virus stays dormant for a certain period of time. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention an infected person has less than 200 T-cells.

As the old wise saying goes- prevention is always better than cure. Although there are many experiments going on in the field of medical science to find a dependable cure of HIV AIDs, but the harsh truth is that there has been no success yet. Family members should help and provide complete support to those who are already infected with the virus.
And the fortunate ones who are free from the virus should take all the precautions specially when indulging in sexual practices. It is very important to avoid Sexual promiscuity. Drug addicts should also abstain from taking drugs and people who are in need of blood should make sure that they get the blood from a licensed and trusted blood bank or similar establishment.
