Adults Can Increase Height
Maximum height is achieved during puberty period. After a certain age the body no longer releases growth hormone to cause height gain. Therefore, it becomes difficult to become taller after 21 years of age. It is difficult but not impossible.
Exercises
Gravity is the biggest hindrance in increasing the height. Try to hang on the swings for at least 20 seconds each day. Allow your spine and leg muscle to be free. Hanging will allow your spine and the bones of the legs stretch.
An interesting exercise is to raise your pelvis. For this, you need to lay down flat on the floor. Place arms parallel to the chest. Fold your knees such that the feet are as near to the buttocks as possible.
Raise your back such that pelvis is raised upwards. Count till 20 (or 10 as per your stamina). Come down slowly by breathing out. Do this 5 times.
Stretch your body after sleeping and before getting up from the bed. Stretch legs outwards and arms upwards such that one feels a stretch at the waist.
Another easy exercise is to lay down on your stomach. Raise left leg, stretching it backwards. At the same time stretch right arm forward. Stay in this position for 4 seconds then slowly come back to original position. Do the same step with the right leg. This exercise is called alternate leg kick.
These exercises need to be done everyday to see results. If one is not physically active these exercises are a good start.
Role of Sleep
During sleep, the GSH or growth stimulating hormone is released. Thus, it is important to have optimal sleep. An average adult need 8 hours of sleep every day.
Role of Diet
Vitamin A, E, C and B-complex family are necessary for good health of bones. Natural source of vitamin A include egg yolk, green and yellow colored vegetables, carrots (contains retinol) and liver. Oranges and lemon are good source of vitamin C. Vitamin E is present in surplus quantities in wheat germ, soy beans and broccoli.
Low fat dairy products provide calcium which is necessary for healthy bones. A diet rich in these nutrients will aid in natural release of GSH.
